rebarrel an old remington

recently I bought an old remington rolling block I believe it is a 1 1/2 or 2 the barrel is marked 38wcf. I knew I may not have a shooter due to pitting about an inch from the throught but I thought I may have it bored to .40 or .44 cal. Upon closer inspection I find it's already bored to what I believe is .44 mag. can it be rebarreled I do not think that barrel thickness will take boring to .50 cal

You might want to check with a gunsmith to see about having a barrel liner installed in your barrel.

38WCF is also called 38-40, but the bullets are .401". If it has been rebored, it's probably bored to 44-40, which is the same case with a larger bullet. In order to find out, you'll have to cat the chamber. If you want to rebarrel it, send it to Green River or ER Shaw.

Thanks for the info. a empty 44mag case seems to fit perfectly I have not tried a loaded round for safety reasons
