Rebarrel 1903A3--Who to go to?

Thinking of swapping out some parts in a 1903A3 to sporterize it and preserve the original stock and matching barrel for collectabilty.

Any recommendations for a smith or barrelmaker to do a rebarrel that won't break the bank?

Also, is Timney trigger installation a do-it-yourself project?

Many thanks.

Don't know for sure about the barrel (could you even change back after an installation?)

The Timney trigger was a do it yourself job on my Mauser IF you understand the workings of your gun and aren't affraid to use a file.
The old guns are not held to the same tolerences (across the prduction run) as modern rifles. The took a lot of hand fitting which is why they are so sought after today. By the same token it makes a 'drop-in' part very hard to produce.

I assumed

. . . the old barrel could always be put back on if desired. Don't they screw in?

I ordered a new stock to put the action and barrel into.

The existing stock is original. I'm going to put it away safe. And like Steve mentioned, I have scoped out installing a Timney trigger.

Am I on the wrong track here? Does removeing the original barrel destroy collectabiltly, even if you save the barrel and don't drill the receiver?

George Stringer, who is moderator of "The Smithy" seems to have reasonable prices; why don't you check with him?
