Reasonable Desert Eagle???

Tankist

New member
This is for all you Desert Eagle experts out there. I just heard that my local dealer is running a special on DE. Here's the deal, new in the box Desert Eagle Mark VII 44mag 6" black--$679.

What do you think.... Too good to be true?? Am I missing something here. As far as I can tell this DE should go for at least $1000. Is there something I need to know before I come in to order one (or two). Are they all produced in Israel by IMI? Is there something wrong with Mark VII's?

By the way, since we are on the subject. For those of you who already have one, could you give a quick rundown on the +'s and -'S of owning this pistol.

Thanks

Tankist,I'm not sure but I would seem to think that was a good price. I paid $400 for a 9mm Baby Eagle. The Baby Eagle was made by IMI. It seems to be good in quality except that it is two toned, black slide, drab olive frame. I thought the gun was suppose to be total black. I emailed them and they responded that yeah it was but sometimes they come through that way and we don't know why. That was their reply with no interest otherwise. I'm happy with it, It shoots well and is accurate.
Hope this helps :)
Happy Shooting :)

(This is all conjecture, so instead of putting "I think..." after each line, I'm going to say it as if it were a fact.)

The Mk VII is the older version which was made by IMI. Now, Magnum Research makes them , and they are Mk XIX? The Mk VII in .50 AE is the only one of the series that can interchange barrels with the newer series. So, in that respect it is less-desirable.

I have heard that the pistols that have IMI stamped on them are becoming more valuable. Personally, if you are happy with having "only" a .44 mag and have the luxury of cash to spend on a fun gun, I'd scoop it up. I recently saw a used two tone .357 DE for around $800, so that would probably be a good price for one.

I fired one side by side with a Colt Anaconda and the DE was much more enjoyable and accurate (IMO).

For new that sounds like a good price. I've seen used one's in that model/caliber go for $800-1000. A note you can't shoot lead bullets in them.

Note: I own a model VII 50 A.E..

Thanks guys,

I decided to go for it. Now I just have to wait 3 or 4 months for the pink slip from NYPD and this puppy is mine. One thing has me a little confused. Does a 44mag DE come with one mag or two? The one I saw had only one mag. I know no one took it because the whole box was shink wrapped at the factory. The gun it's self packed in oil.

Tankist,
$675 seems to be too low for NIB DE 44mag.
See if it is Israily made od US, also see if it is one of the aluminum frame once (they are cheaper).

Normal going rate for De is 900+.

By the way, Tankist is Russian word. Are you from former USSR?

It is NIB Israeli made. The Frame is definately steel. The price IS too low. But, like I said they are running a special on this pistol till the end of the month. I still have to find out how many magazines it is supposed to come with. Other then that, I'm sold.

Yeah, it is a Russian word. Long time ago, still speak the language though.

I'm pretty sure they come with only one magazine. I have seen three for sale recently, all NIB, and all three came with one mag.

Congrats on the purchase. It is a FUN cannon to fire for sure.

A very good price. I think I paid over $1K for my .44MAG MKVII but it came with a 14"bbl. You can convert to .41MAG with just a barrel/mag swap but for the other calibers, you'll need the slide too.

I purchased my DEPs a few years back and as I recall they came with two mags. I can't really tell now as I have since bought additional mags for them and I can't tell which came as originals. For pretty good prices on (factory) mags go to CDNN. Recently bought another mag for the .50AE MKVII.

I'd post the website but I'm not at my regular computer. Try doing a search for the site here at TFL, I've seen it posted before.

It' not on there web site but someone, I think it's CDNN is also selling new older model DE in a couple of calibers. I saw them in the latest shotgun news. Sorry I don't remember more.

shiro

PS they also had DE barrels and mags.

CDNN is a great place. I bought some Pro-mag magazines from them a while ago for my G19. The mags were crap but the service was great. Ended up returning them for a refund.

Let me ask a stupid question here. CDNN has one 44mag magazine listed as BLUE the other as NICKEL. The DE that I bought is listed as Black Oxide. Do I need to find a mag that is listed as black oxide or is blue close enough. Great prices though for both mags and barrels. I might just get that 41mag barrel.

The mags that came with my DEPs, which are the standard black oxide, are blue. The mags can be had in nickle, chrome, and gold to match guns in those finishes but will cost and additional $20-$35 over the price of the mag itself (from Mag Research).

If you can, get a hold of Mag Research's DEP catalog from gun shops (or maybe even from MR themselves). They've got a bunch of other accessories for the DEPs that I have not found anywhere else.

Or go to their site : http://www.magnumresearch.com/

I really would like this one :

For more info on the DE, Rabbi Mermelstein at jpfo.org has a section called "Ask the Rabbi". Scroll down until you run across Desert Eagle 50AE.

Hope this helps.

While there, read the other info about JPFO and consider joining. They have THE BEST RKBA educational material IMHO.

Maybe it's a special that Magnum Research is running cause a local dealer near me has the .44mag DE advertised on his marquis for a similar price.
