Rear Ghost Ring?

Has anyone tried a "ghost ring" rear sight on their handguns?

So far I've been able to get by, using last year's reading glasses, but I know its only a matter of time before I will be going to a scope on my guns. I really don't like a S&W "J" frame with a EER on top.

I've seen a couple of articles about ghost ring sights on Glocks and Rugers, but I usually take "Gun Writers" with a grain of salt.:(

I tried one when they first started showing up, and didnt like it. Like the Mojo's on rifles, they dont work like a true peep does, as they are to far away from your eye. You still have to "align" the front and rear sights, and the rear peep just adds confusion, or at least it did for me, as they dont have something to "align". I just found they werent natural to shoot with and just required to much thought to use.

Agree about the Mojo sights. I had a set on my SKS, really didn't help much like a true peep would.

If you want to do a dry run, just fabricate a dummy set using a short stick, something shaped into a small cylinder and a post. Cheaper than blowing $$$ on the real thing only to discover it isn't for you.

I have the Warren site that mortimer linked to, I like it well enough have one on my Ruger Blackhawk and Mk II.

My eyes are still fine and I honestly don't know what made me buy them. I like them and think they are faster than stock sights but can't comment on the vision gain.

Pretty inexpensive and easy enough to install them.

Ghost sights

I bought a Hi-Point (see surprisingly civil thread on semi-auto forum).
They come with a Ghost Ring that can be installed instead of the standard sights

I used it for my first test fire last week and plan to leave it on for this weeks planned test.
My experience: Does not seem particularly helpful or harmful to me --- But:
I wear my reading glasses when shooting.
I've shot for a few decades and am used to the concept of proper sight alignment/sight picture picture and I'm hoping to get it right one of these years.

I think that the Ghost ring (on the Hi-Point) might actually help the target demographic for that weapon: "buy pistol with one box of ammo and practice shooting every couple years".
I think it might make it easier for an inexperienced shooter to focus on the front sight, but I admit that is just a guesstimate on my part.
