Real TV

Last nite's episode of the syndicated real-life video show "Real TV" (or whatever) had a segment on the "Pistol Packin' Grandma."

Granny is minding her Quikee Mart store as seen from the B&W surveillence video behind her back when a young man enters the shop with panty hose pulled over his head and the legs dangling around him like a court-jester's hat.

He is armed with a knife and demands money. The woman refuses. The man-boy reaches over the counter to open the register...no luck. The granny appears in frame and reaches under the counter to fetch her .357 Magnum as the robber turns away to leave the granny can be heard to say, "I've been waitin' for you."

She chases him out side the shop. Moments later a shot rings out. It was a warning shot presumably into the ground. The granny later says that she wanted to scare him off and didn't want to shoot so as to send a bullet into adjacent neighborhoods.

This is the first time I have seen regular TV portray such an event.

And if it was NY, SF, LA she'd be charged for assault with a deadly weapon. Everybody normal in America would applaud her for her heroic stand against crime and the victimization of the elderly.
