Real ammunition against the gun-grabbers who shriek at the idea of :shall issue" laws.

"Nationally, after ten years of 'shall issue' laws in 23 states, approximately one in 5,000 had a license revoked for a crime involving a firearm -- 0.0186 percent, to be precise." --

FIGHTING BACK: Crime, Self-Defense, and the Right to Carry a Handgun

What I would really like to see for comparison to this number would be similar numbers for large police forces, like LAPD and NYPD.

Heck, just the high publicity cases in those two places would probably give you a criminality rate two or three times the CCW rate.

Food for thought, anyway.

I agree LEO numbers would be higher. But remember CCW holders can avoid and walk away from trouble. LEOs must seek it out and fight it.

Greater exposure means greater risk of making a mistake - an offense.

But also means they [LEO's] get more experiance? They also get a lot more training don't they? In legal use of force I mean.

Everything I have ever seen on the topic states that the cops shoot about half the number of BG's each year as the citizenry. They are also about 10 times as likely to wrongly shoot an innocent.

Bottom line: the populace has a MUCH greater chance of being on the scene of a crime as it is happening than the cops do.

Think about it. Of the cop, bad guy, and victim, who is ALWAYS the last to arrive at the scene of a crime?

Bob Locke, you forget that sometimes the cop is the BG and sometimes the victim, but not necessarily always the last to arrive on scene. Also, the only reason why cops are usually last on the scene is that the are not everywhere. Policing is often a reactionary pursuit, hence why the citizenry are on scene more often than cops. Usually, the citizenry include both the victims and BGs. They are more likely to be on scene because they are the ones caught up in the problem.
