Reagan and the Unions--(long)

Come on guys, does anyone remember what Reagan did to the unions?????
I do, my wage went from $10.00 down to $5.00 after he broke the union at the slaughter house in my home State....
Unions are not AS necessary now as they were in the early part of this century, but, Reagan really screwed me when it came to my job and the money I had for college.......
It was a real struggle for me to finish college and get a job that paid for this.
It wasn't until Clinton got into office that I was finally able to afford a house, new cars and a good job for me and my family of 5.
My family and me are American born, full blooded German descent, btw,
and I am as pro gun as you can get....
As far as all this BS concerning Gore taking away the 2nd ammendment....please...
The US Govt. will never take all our guns.
The good citizens of this country would never stand for this.....
Hell I know die hard liberal democrats that have shotguns and rifles and maybe the odd pistol that would never relinquish their firearms...
Lets get real.....
Even if Gore got into office and wanted you to turn in your guns...would you???
I think not.....I know I wouldn't...

If you feel that strongly about Reagan then don't vote for him. I did like him and my vote was part of his landslide victory in 1984 over whathisname.

Will your 2004 vote be an anti-Reagan vote?

I'm curious to know specifically what Clinton did that made you so prosperous after he was elected. Just because he happened to be in office when prosperity came your way does not mean he made it happen. I prefer to think that you made your self more prosperous, not the government.

I was extremely proud when Reagan fired the air traffic controllers. I was reading a transcript of that speach on the Reagan library site just last night. Made me proud all over again.

I'm not anti-union. I am a member of a very large international union. I am active in same. I am merely opposed to any laws that force employers to bargain with and come to an agreement with unions. If a union and employer can come to an agreement, then those parties should be held to that agreement with all legal remedies, but no employer should be forced to recognize a union.

If you don't like the way an employer does business with you, then find another job. You're not owed anything by your employer.

The original intent of unions was honorable, their goals were honorable. No employer should abuse employees.

Now however, the union leaders take the steak and give the crumbs to the workers. And the people who must pay for all this is not the employer but the consumer of the workers' goods and services.

Inflated salaries and wages (a good portion of which go to the union leaders) make the union-made products more expensive and therefore less competitive.

Then you either must have protectionist laws (tariffs, etc.) or cut back on production (to meet reduced demand due to higher costs and subsequent prices). Cutting back on production then means loss of jobs for the workers who make the union leaders rich.

How many union leaders lead the same middle class lifestyle (including bank accounts and investments) as the workers they represent?

There lies the "proof of the pudding".

DAKODAKID,
Since you brought it up. How did Reagan break your union? If indeed, he did somehow mange to do that, what happened to the top union people? Was their wage cut, or did they sell you out? Now, think about who supported Gore. It's the same people that sold you out, not Reagan.
