Ok, this is my LAST post asking for what to buy...promise! I've considered $160 marlin 60's and as high as a $650 ruger 77/22 WMR...I've settled down to being content with a quality 22LR and will be paring it with a Nikon Prostaff or similar quality scope. Something I will be happy with for a lifetime!

From reading these forums, there's a wealth of good info out there but asking what gun to buy seems to be like what craft beer you like...there's many good products out there...

My old man has a 10/22 deluxe that I've shot with the last couple of years. It's a nice rifle indeed...it goes for $286 at buds. just trying to see if i can get something somewhat similarly price, good quality, good accuracy out of the box (not really planning on modding it), maybe a tad of class, etc...

right now I'm looking for alternatives for the gun I'm considering which is a CZ455 American which is $362 at buds...my plan is to read up on the alternatives you guys give me, then pull the trigger (pun intended) at the middle of August so I can be ready for rodent season in mid September.

let me know. thanks.

I don't have an alternative. Event with average quality ammo, the CZ is a fantastically accurate right out of the box gun. There are very few .22s that are more accurate, without spending 2-4 times as much money.

At some point, you may want to consider spending as much, if not more, for a better, higher magnification optic... the gun is good enough to warrant the added precision.

Cheers,
C

Thanks Creeper...yeah your suggestion of the redfield is definitely on the shortlist...looks like the 3-9x40mm has sick reviews at opticsplanet and goes for around 2 bills.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 24X or more target scope. The CZ is accurate enough to warrant one, should precision shooting (and spending all the disposable income you have) interest you. :D

Not to bore you, or blow up your brain or budget, but... have a read when you get a chance. BR-50. Anschutz BR-50.

Cheers,
C

As you have realised there are multiple .22 rimfires to choose from ranging from under $200 to over $2,000. If you want an accurate .22 on the cheaper end of the scale look at Savage. If you want an accurate .22 at the more expensive end of the scale look at Sako or Cooper. If you want the most accurate buy an Anschutz. The most important thing is to buy a rifle that feels right for you & is within your budget.
After nearly 40 years of shooting, I purchased a new .22 a few years ago & opted for a CZ452 topped with a Leupold 2-7x33, & couldn't be happier. I also own a Sako .17hmr & while I consider the Sako rimfire a slightly better made rifle than the CZ, it also costed considerably more.

If you havent already maybe check out rimfirecentral.com. I asked a similar question and the CZ is pretty much it. Marlin, Remington, Savage all make great and accurate rifles but they just are not consistently on par with the CZ. I dont think Sako or Kimber currently make a rimfire rifle so you would have to look used. When they did make them it was at a higher price point. Anschutz is pretty much the last word in rimfire accuracy, but you will be closer to the $2k mark without glass.
I am finishing up an old marlin rebuild now. I dont expect it to have that "one hole" accuracy but it has sentimental value so its a keeper. I have my eyes on the used rack every time I go to the LGS for a CZ, Kimber, Sako, etc..
Post what you end up buying.

Creeper, I will consider getting at least a 12X :D

Thanks Phil and Boogieman for your input...i just signed up with rimfirecentral and posted a question...yeah it seems like a CZ is a excellent gun that will fits the bill very nicely..thx
