Reactive targets: Where should I go shoot them?

I have noticed one of the big sporting goods stores have starting carrying reactive targets (aka tannerite) from shooters choice in .5lb,1lb, and 2.5lb containers. I have always been interested in shooting some but I'd like to make sure where I can without repercussions. I remember hearing of someone who was fined $535 (if I remember correctly) for shooting some in a national forest here in Colorado. I have also read that people say they have shot it in BLM land. I would love to find a place to be able to try some without getting arrested, fined or anything. Any suggestions on where to go from those that use this stuff?

That's interesting, and you have made me a little wary now :) I'm from Broomfield, so south of Boulder- We typically go shooting up in Left Hand Canyon, and we've brought Tannerite twice now. I just think that there's an unspoken rule to not set it off all at once :p If you're doing a half-pound or less at a time, I don't see any issues as it's about as loud as the rifle. Plus, I don't see any signs citing it's use directly or on the DOW/BLM/NFS websites, and Tannerite is designed to not (subjective, i guess) start fires.

So yeah- meet me up in LHC with it, it seems to be a great conversation starter :D

....and as a side note- we did set off the "mixing container" at one point (2 pounds worth). As awesome as it was, people coming up the jeep trail said they heard it about a mile away (could probably hear it in Boulder) , so no more of those

I would love to meet you sometime. I'm pretty busy till the end of the month unfortunately though. Sometime after next week or some other time down the road would work though. Thanks for the offer. I'm on the Denver outskirts also.
