Reaching in to the bullet box....

And this pops out. This is not a .224 bullet...nope, mikes out to be a 7mm mag 175 gr bullet in the box with the .224s. Kinda like finding the tiny bit of bacon fat in a can of Pork and Beans.

Hornaday had nothing to say, but no worries, the box count was right, just this funny extra. :) I have nothing in 7mm, so it's a dust collector.

Over the years that has happened to me twice, when I called Hornady hey said at times bullets get hung up ??????

Forget what it was but I found a malformed something or the other in one of mine.

Kind of fun find.

You found the Golden Ticket!

When we used to go through Speer .224" 52 gr HPs like they were candy, in .220 Swift and .223 Remington, my father bought a 'case-lot' of second-hand 52 gr HPs from one of the local reloading suppliers.
Some months later, in one of the boxes, we found a highly-polished, brass-jacketed bullet that looked a bit different. Upon closer inspection, we realized that it was a swaged .22 LR jacket.
Further down into the box, there was a little slip that read, roughly: "You have found the Gold Bullet! Vernon Speer made this bullet just after the war ended in 1945. Contact customer service to validate this piece of history and claim the prize!"

Cool! :D

My father called.
Yea... it was a rifle give-away that ended about 10 years prior (with a donation to a charity, since no one claimed the rifle). :(
They were happy to hear about the "Gold Bullet", though.

My father does still have the bullet.

Now that's neat. Sorry, no plans to buy a 7mm anything, and I have no idea what it would fit, was guessing with the 7mm Mag, as it is .284 diameter and 175 grains, so I guess it will fit whatever will shoot it.

It's mine, I only had 99 bullets in the last box I got.

Seriously, that is odd, I guess there isn't a QC station before sealing up the box because that's pretty obvious.

Hornaday thought it was odd when I told them, and they're sending me a hat. I didn't ask for anything, but since I do use their bullets all the time, I'm good with that. ;)

speaking of bullets......my last order of Speer bullets from MidwayUSA...(two boxes) when they got here..I heard a lot of rattling around...thought a box had popped open....but what I found were twenty loose bullets matching the two hundred I had ordered...has anyone else experienced this?

Only once when I bought some from a guy online, and the package got ripped open, "somehow" during shipping, loose bullets everywhere. They were all there, though.
