re-using seated primers ?

So i'm looking to prep some subsonic casings. I want to use a unique brand of brass for my subs. I have about 120 pcs of PPU brass but I had them all primed. I need to enlarge the primer flash hole to .094" so i punched put the unused primers with my LEE universal deprimer die. Is it ok to re-seat unfired primers or should you only seat primers once ? Thanks !

Not the best of plans...good primers, properly seated, are the beginning of an accurate, reliable load..a primer with a partially collapsed anvil can't be expected to perform as advertised. Rod

Hello, I wouldn't. If this is special ammo you probably want it to work correctly. I am cheap but for less than $5.00 new primers are good insurance.

I have re-used de-capped, unfired primers for non-critical use (informal plinking), ammunition. Several hundred, only one fail to fire. It goes without saying that such primers should not be used for application where reliability is a factor...but there will always be those who will make a big deal out of it.

Another vote for removing and reusing primers if needed - carefully of course.
Not so much as to save money as having no way to safely dispose of them.
They've always worked, but they were all for auto loader pistols, not rifles.

What's so unique about PPU brass?

Its not PPU that is unique, its is segregating a brass mfg out separately for a different loading, i.e. Subs, subsonic.

I too wish that brass came in some kind of coloring or unique ID so you could keep track of it.

Correct RC20, by using my off brand PPU brass ONLY for subs i've created a quick identifying casing that's been modded with the larger .094" flash hole.

People reuse primers all the time and it's purely up to you.

I figure it this way, 100 primers runs about 3.5 cents apiece or roughly $3.50. I don't bother to reuse them, not that they can't be salvaged or reused, I simply don't bother.

If they aren't damaged I don't see why you couldn't reuse them. That said, I have not and do not plan on reusing any previously loaded primer. They are 3.8¢ each where I buy them. Not worth the worry to reuse.

It is fine, and anyone saying otherwise is spewing (animal waste)

There is no reason NOT to reuse primers in that situation.

I've loaded rounds only to find upon final inspection that the mouth split. I've broken them down and re-used all the components. As others have stated, would not use the primer for SD/HD, simply not wanting to take any chances. I assure you, as long as you carefully and slowly remove the primer, it will fire.

Be safe.
