RE:Should I Trade My S&W Model 38.....?

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 38 Airweight 2" (shrouded hammer) which is 15 oz. The new Titanium Model 442PD (I think) is about 11 oz. I like the 4 oz. weight savings. Is it a smart trade or should I stick with what I have.
Thanks.

IMHO - probably stick with what you have. If you just have to play around and want to get rid of the M 38 - let me know.

I'd stick with the 38. Chances are it is a better finished gun, internally and externally. Should last for a few generations while giving good service. Plus it is pre-sellout.

If you don't mind a jacketed-bullet-only gun and can afford it, then get it.

I recently bought a new J-frame. I really liked the 342PD's weight. But it was too expensive (>$500) for me. It is relegated to jacketed rounds only, and I like to be able to shoot lead. So I got a cheaper (<$400) 642LS instead.

I started out with a nickel M38 and bought a M342. I love the Bodyguard style -- I really wish S&W had made a Bodyguard in titanium, but those are the breaks.

The four ounce weight savings is significant if you use pocket carry. Otherwise, if you carry on your belt, it's not going to make much of a difference, especially considering the price differential (around here, $386 for M638 vs. $509 for M342).

I'd keep the Model 38. I own a 342pd and like it, but don't think the weight savings is worth the extra cost. Recoil is a bit harder with the 342.
