?? re. resale on Ruger Vaquero....

My dad is a revolver man. He has given me a couple. He recently asked me what I thought he could get for a . 357 Ruger Vaquero with after market ebony wood grips that had never been fired. He lives in PA.

I haven't bought or sold a gun in so long, I had no idea. Anybody give me a ballpark. Thanks in advance.

I usually look around gunsamerica.com for an idea on prices. Or go to gunbroker.com and look. The trick to gunbroker is to realize people can _ask_ whatever they want. You want to know what people will actually pay. So look for like guns that actually have bids on them.

I would think a gun like that would be worth around $350. Maybe slightly less now that a lot of people are going to want the new, slimmer models.

I think it is gaining in value. I would guess upwards of $400.00 and up. The "old" Ruger Vaqueros are now more valuable. The NEW Ruger Vaqueros are KBing. Shooters want the "old" Ruger Vaqueros due to their strength.

I bought mine when they first came out with the vaquero. Mine is 45 colt in stainless steel with the fake ivory grips. I paid in the low 4s. If someone showed me $375 for the gun! I might take it.

We all have opinions. I don't happen to share yours! The new ones ARE going to have less strength since they have less steel. But they should be stronger than most of the SAA copies out there. People don't seem to be "KB'ing" them. It's true, you shouldn't buy one of the new models in .45 Colt and try to load it to .44 Magnum levels. (Although I bet you couldn't hurt the .357 if you tried.) It's "different" not "worse." A whole bunch of people told Ruger that would prefer less width/bulk/weight even if that meant less strength in .45 Colt.

I will agree _a little_ that we MAY see some NIB specimens _in .45 Colt_ of the older and stronger models actually go up in price. But how many people were buying the fixed sight standard Vaquero in .45 Colt to load it like a .44 Magnum anyway? The "big bore Magnum" people like the Bisley frame. I personally haven't seen a totally authoritative answer yet to whether Ruger sees this "downsizing" affecting the Bisley or the Bisley Vaquero. People _do_ load those hot.

Sorry if I came across too strong at the beginning! But I'm _really_ excited about the new slimmer frame. I'm buying one in the 50th Anniversary Blackhawk model and I may even decide to get a new Vaquero. Something I never intended to do before the new model came out. I can't be _that_ unique. I don't really think there are vast numbers of people out there who are unhappy with the new design. And who are going to drive up the prices on the old ones. I _could_ be wrong. I guess we will see in the next year!
