Re: M1A Scout Is this normal?

I put 60 rounds throught it the other night, but I didn't get a chance to look closely at it until tonight. I noticed a couple of shiny areas as I worked the operating rod. It appears that the front of the OpRod is removing some metal from two places; the bottom of the front scope mount (I'm referring to the piece located under the barrel and above the gas tube.), and the outside of the barrel near the chamber area. It looks as if a considerable amount of metal was removed from the bottom of the scope mount. Should I call Springfield or is this normal? I didn't have any functioning problems but the rifle is fairly hard to cock initially. Thanks.

That's not a bug, it's a feature!

That doesn't sound normal. What kind of scope mount? Maybe you should shave some off of it?

My op rod did make a little shiny place on my barrel though.

Sorry, this isn't real easy to describe.

The part that I'm referring to, is the bottom portion of the forward scope mount. The scope rail is attached to it with screws.

The scope rail sits on top of the barrel/handguard- this piece is below the barrel.

For the lack of a better term it's the "locking nut" that hold the scope rail on. The Op rod is/was making contact with the bottom of it.

Ya know, I`m right in the middle of SEALS Hell Week

on TLC and you distracted me. How am I gonna brag about going through it if you distract me? :p

I have a few more rounds through mine and it looks brand new. If I understood you right I think you have a problem. Can you feel it rub when you work the bolt? Mine is nice and smooth with no grinding feel to it. Better call S/A.
