i need to have my 1911 re-blued or some other type of finish applied to it,is there someplace in the richmond va area that could do this or could someone recommend something else.thanks

I don't know of anyone in that area.
Most gunsmiths send their work out to professional re-finisher services, and those that still do it themselves usually do poor quality jobs.

Much depends on what you want. There's a lot of finishes offered from bluing, to parkerizing, to electroless nickel, to bright nickel, to the polymer coatings, to hard chrome.

Here's a couple of top professional shops that offer a wide range of finishes.
Do some reading on the sites.

Re-finishing

Just a word about refinishing. Make sure you really want to do that. Sometimes, depending on the weapon, refinishing causes the value to really decline. I would think twice about it.

If this is a real 1911, the US service pistol built 1911-1925 or a 1911A1 1925-1945 or a real Colt Government Model of any great age, it may have good collector interest and resale value in any decent condition, even showing some wear. Refinishing will eliminate that. Spend $200 rebluing a $900 gun and end up with a $400 gun.

Now if it is something newer or if it is an old gun that has been badly neglected, it might be worth refinishing.

Give details and show pictures, we will be able to help... with opinions at least.
