Re-Barrel Winchester Super Grade?

I have a 300 Win Mag Super grade and am thinking of having it rebarreled to .375 and chambered to 375 H&H. Is the action long enough for the H&H and would the bolt face need to be opened? Also what would be the best finished barrel length, 22",24", or 26"?

Milehi,

Sure, that conversion will work, although you will probably need a new magazine box and you might have to trim back the bolt stop a touch. I like a shorter barrel, so I would go with the 22" myself, although the 24" would be a good compromise. The .375 works well through short barrels.

I'm not sure the 375 H&H would work thru that action. If I remember correctly, the 300 Win Mag was an H&H case, shortened to work thru a 30'06 length action. There were 3 model 70 Actions, Short - 308 length, Long - 30'06 length, and Magnum length, the last for the 300 and 375 H&H Magnums.

Milehi. I think all you have to do is change the magazine box and bolt stop. In checking a .375 H&H round against the opening in the receiver, you may also have to remove metal at the rear of the receiver. It might pay you to measure the receiver opening of a factory .375 Model 70 and compare it to yours.
