I have a great S&W 625 with a 6" barrel. Accurate and fun to shoot. I just wish It had the new 21/2" barrel or maybe a 3." Is it cheaper to buy a new gun with the short barrel or just get this one re-barreled??

Can the existing barrel be shortened and the front sight re attached?

Who does good barrel work on N-frames Smiths? All help appreciated.

For a start on your search, I'd call S&W and see if they have the shorter barrel you're interested in. They do barrel swaps quite reasonably, and obviously, no-one knows your gun better.

Another option would be to call Scott at SDM fabrication. He has set up a cottage industry of cutting 625's down since IDPA restricted barrel length, and could tell you just how short you could go without compromising or complicating the ejector latch housing.

Can't find SDM Fabrication

Chris, thanks for the reply. Looked on Google and found an SDM fabrication that makes robots. Have you got a phone Number or a location for the SDM that does barrel work?

Thanks, Miles

Sorry for the mistype; it's SDMfabricatING.

Scott also manufactures the best fiber optic sights for your 625, as well as the Gold Bead patridge which the Performance Center now sells and puts on some guns.
