Re-barrel on Universal M1 Carbine...

I know, I know...
What a silly question. Sure makes me look like a newbie, eh?
But - is the barrel of a Universal M1 Carbine threaded? I've got it disassembled to just the barreled action, and find no pins...

I'm going to re-barrel this for a friend (if I ever locate a replacement) because the gas block separated from the barrel - at the weld!:p
I don't suppose there's any effective way to re-weld the old gas block, without warping the barrel?

Yes, the barrel is threaded. No, you won't be able to unthread it without damage unless you have the required special tools.

The gas block is not welded, but is probably soldered on. Consult a gunsmith.

You can't re-weld the barrel.

To remove the old barrel and install the new one, you'll need a Carbine action wrench. Try it with some kind of expedient method and the cast receiver will crack or bend.

I assume you also know that you'll need a lathe to fit the barrel and a set of head space gages.

just remember that Universals are a unique M1 carbine lookalike, very few of the parts interchange and there are substantial differences in how they are put together.
