RCBS Ram Priming Unit problem

After reading about this RCBS Ram Priming Unit I bought one. I find it works great with large primers, but when I use the small primer adapter with small primers, the primers tend to turn sideways or flip 180 deg. Not sure why this is happening, but I'm back to installing small primers with RCBS reverse lever unit and then seating them with a hand primer tool.

The seating cup never looses contact with the shell holder when i use mine. I place primer in cup when in the up position, lower, insert case, seat primer.

Try cleaning the shell holder hole with powder solvent and a 22 caliber nylon bore brush.

I've found only one shellholder that would not work with the cup and spring of the primer punch. You may have a shellholder that has too tight of a hole for the cup to easily slide through. It depresses the cup then it will toss a primer from the spring pressure. Maybe try a new shellholder, polish the shellholder hole, or your punch is not going up through the hole straight. May try adjusting the cup in the shellholder and lock the primer punch down tight and check to see that it will pass through the shellholder without binding.

243winxb, What you said was the ticket. I'm pretty sure now that the problem stemmed from loading the primer under the shellholder. The rod that holds the primer has a lot of play before it enters the underside of priming unit and really doesn't stabilize until it goes through the the first 1/2" or so of the priming unit until the larger area inside the unit narrows down. I believe this is where the primers where turning on top of the priming rod. If I load the primers above the priming unit it works very well. Thanks

Thanks for responding, I haven't tried the Ram Priming unit with all my shellholders and I will keep an eye out for the problem you are describing.
