359 at Big 5 looking to buy and perhaps sell it later for more money, is it really even worth it is a Russian capture electro penciled etc. No sight hood or cleaning rod I already have a Yugo 8mm Mauser sporter (yea I know 0 collector value) and not much more before it was bubbad, anyways should I stick to it and forget it?? It does have several Eagles however, a small swastika under neath the Eagles and dates! Of the three RC K98's this is the only with Eagles and small swastikas on it.

Last time I saw RC Mausers at a wholesaler they were $279 and had peened swastikas.

Two years ago I would have said "not worth it", but any more, that seems like it is getting to be the going rate. The advantage at Big 5 over ordering one is you get to check it out before you spend the money.

I wouldn't plan on making any money by flipping it though.

All firearms used by the German Wehrmacht during WW II should have the WAa pruef (Waffen Amt Proof) the weapons office acceptance stamp. Sometimes it is in multiple places, sometimes only once on the gun.

There are a few variations of the mark, and then there are many differences in appearance due to mis strikes or light striking.

The full marking is a Nazi eagle with swastika and usually the number 135 underneath. However, due to variations, the eagle may only look like parallel lines (the wings), the swastika and Wa # might not be there, or might be too faint to see.

If the Russians captured it from the Germans in WW II it should have the Wa proof on it somewhere. OF course, the marking could have been removed (to further remove it from its Nazi history), look for a polished spot where other guns have markings.

And No way I would pay that kind of money for a Mauser 98k unless it was new in the box perfect. On the other hand, the dozens I have owned over the years, and the fact that we bought them by the barrelfull for next to nothing 40 some years ago might be coloring my viewpoint.

Even if I waited say 5 years you think it still be an insignificant gain like 100 dollars??? I guess its kinda like Vegas. But since its not in its original condition and since many were captured I am guessing the price increase would be in the hundreds perhaps over MANY years so maybe not really worth it.
