What is the shelf life of ammo. How long before you should change the ammo you carry for self defense?

Thanks to the one who sent me the link to georgia arms in another post about where to get ammo

Sorry, i should have searched this first - but I am interested in shelf life opinions, and how often to change the bullets used for self defense, ive had the same ones loaded and unloaded from my mags for at least 6-8 mos - speer Gold Dot and Hornady

Pretty good and affordable to shoot. Not so good for reloaders, as they mix all types and brands of brass in each box.

Ammo lasts for years and years if kept dry. IMO, you need to regularly shoot ANY defensive weapon if your life depends on it! "**** Happens"

No don't buy theres ,JUNK. That way i will get mine a little close to on time from them. Range ammo has always shot well and hunting or premium grades are good stuff.Use there stuff for hunting for 15 years.

Police Departments hormally change out ammo every range time you fire what is in you weapon and on your belt and get issued fresh ammo. The fresh ammo could be over 2 years old depending on the size of the Dept ammo supply and range times can be from yearly to monthly depending on the department SOP. Ammo can last decades if stored properly I still shoot WW-2 ammo.
