Rate of twist in .308

a buddy has a stoner SR 25

they set up cronos and printed the gun at 500 yards
while calculating adjustments they discovered the rifle was out shooting the range tables for the match loads they were shooting.

It turns out that the SR 25 runs an 11.25 twist

My Landtec TAC-24 has a 24" Rock Stainless Steel bbl with 1 in 11.27 rate of twist, 5-R rifling and a Match chamber.Landtec recommends using a 168 gr.BTHP for optimium performance and after lots of exprimenting I must say that I agree with their recommendation.

I own 308 bolt guns with 1:10, 1:11.5, 1:12 and 1:13 twist.
All will handle the 165 to 168 grain loads equally. As the twist slows, the likelyhood of handling hot 150-155 grain loads increases.

I know the 1:12 twist with 165 HPBT Sierra's are amazingly accurate. I need to try some 168 grain HPBT.

1:12 will usually stabilize 168 and 175 gr HPBT MK, but anything longer would be questionable. Personally, I prefer 1:10 because it handle bullets from 150 to 220 gr which is a fairly large and useful range of bullets. opinion of course.

Landtec,

Who made that 5R barrel that you have? I don't know too many barrel makers that are cutting 5R rifling. Only one I know is Kreiger.

Mute, Pac-Nor is making them and also Obermeyer.....Pac Nor also makes a 3R ...........
If your interested, go with the Obermeyer, but be prepared to wait.
Rock is no longer in business.........
