Rarity of the 18.5" Mossberg barrel?

Probably just the town I live in, but I can't find one of these anywhere...not even Gander Mountain. Oh sure they can ORDER one for $100, but nothing I can just buy. One local gun store guy rambled on about how expensive the barrels are and I'd be better off getting the 590a sitting on the rack behind him, for $350. I'm serious.

Maybe tomorrow's trip to WV will be more fruitful. I could order off ebay, but I want one NOW!:D

Check with the pawn shops in your area. A lot of these barrels come as deer barrels in addition to the regular barrel. I have seen several in the past taded in with both barrls. In fact, you could probably buy the used gun almost as cheap as a new barrel.

It's the same around here. Plenty of guns, but not very many barrels. Cabela's sells the Mossberg 18.5" brand new for $74.99. I ordered an 18" 870 barrel from them for $109.99 about a month ago. I mostly use the Mossy 500 for hunting so I haven't gotten a short barrel for it (yet). ;)

Ebay is full of mossberg barrels. I am picking up a 28 inch accu choke barrel becuase I bought two accuchoke tubes by mistake last year (4.50 each) before I was given the gun.

Mine has the 18 1/2 on it, handy size.

The problem with ordering barrels from the manufacturer is that they are stupidly expensive.

IIRC, a 28" vent rib mossberg 500 barrel costs 140 bucks from mossberg. Interestingly enough, you can but a mossberg maverick 88 with that exact same 28" barrel for 140 bucks. You not only get the barrel, but a working firearm!

Since the 18.5's are cheaper, you can't do the same thing, but the maverick 88 home security model retails for 150-160 and not only will you have a barrel, you will have an extra parts kit in case anything on your mossy breaks for only 50 bucks more.

I finally found one at a GM out in WV today. Last one they had. Dicks didn't have one, just a ported 28".

$99. Ouch.

Yep, that's why I went with Cabelas for my 870 barrel. Local stores (if they even have them) are usually too high especially after taxes are figured in. If I remember right I got my 18" 870 police barrel to my front doorstep for like $120 total, about $10 of that was for shipping. So if you ordered the Mossy 18.5" for $74.99, it should total only $85 delivered. That's lower than that GM price before taxes. There's an option for you at least if you aren't in too big of a hurry.

I have an 18.5 inch cylinder barrel I am looking to trade for a accuchoke barrel (shorter the better) if anyone maybe interested for a mossberg 500, I am trying to get into turkey hunting and need a barrel that excepts chokes.

check midwayusa.com under gun parts

they have a 20 " Mossberg 500 barrel that takes chokes

no problem getting barrels from midwayusa/brownells and others.

your looking in all the wrong places.

go down to the "close out barrels" page.
May not have exactly what you want, but you can't beat the prices.

Have you called Mossberg directly? They have good prices too...

I just got one of their 18.5" heavy-walled Accu-choke barrels for $69.99 + $10.00 shipping. They are a special police contract overrun, factory threaded by Mossberg. It comes with 1 free choke of your choice (full, modified, or imp cylinder) I already had those 3 chokes but got mine with Imp Cylinder installed since it is for home defense most of the time. When it comes time to hunt I just swap the choke out for whichever one I need and rock and roll....I never have to swap barrels.

Whats the finish on those Accu choke barrels? Need a Parked one. Funny story, around '99 I bought a Mossy M-500 Military Shotgun, came with 24" barrel, called Mossberg to buy an 18.5 barrel and the lady was asking where and how I got it, and there was absolutely no listing for the 24" barrel, she offered to let me send mine in and get the 18.5 as replacement. I said No because if its a rarity I'll hold on to it. Still in safe wrapped up all correct proof marks. Nice heavy walled barrel just a tad too long for the house.

You guys are making me ill. Up here, in Canada, a rifle sighted 870 barrel runs around $300Cdn or more. I feel another road trip coming on.

BudsGunShop.com

I got mine from gunbroker.com cpl weeks ago from Buds for $87 + $10 s/h, so for under $100 to my door isn't bad. When you consider I sold my old 28" barrel the 870 came with for around $60 on Ebay, I think it a good trade.:D
