Rare? Model S&W 617

I am thinking about buying a 4 inch 617 that has a six shot cylinder(stainless)
but it also has the target trigger and target hammer with white outline rear
sight. I do not see this model listed with the current models. One person said the bluebook shows it as a catalog order and they do exist. This one is mint condition but i'd like to know for sure if it was a factory offering and not just someones custom job. The present owner told me it has a JBxxx type serial number. Anyone with info on this I would appreciate hearing about it before I go through with the deal. Thanks. email: menasha_7171@yahoo.com
 
The 6 shot 4 inchers were discontinued in the late 90's and only the 10 shot model is still available with a 4 inch barrel.
 
Supica & Nahas don't list a product code for a 4" TT TH 617, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. It would appear that, whatever else, it is not the most common of configurations.
 
Won't hurt to get the serial number and call the factory. You may be able to get the answer from them. I agree that it's not listed so it's not common, but it's not uncommon for the SCSW to miss a certain option combo.
