Rant -- Salon, Democrats, and "choice"

I tortured myself last night and spent several hours in the chat threads attached to Salon, the internet magazine. As usual, it was a mistake, and a real setup for resentment. The chat posters are almost entirely left of center, and any thread soon becomes politicized.

One thread was, "How To Piss Me Off", and, of course, one way to piss off many of the posters was to vote Republican. Being feminists, many of them were especially infuriated that anyone would oppose abortion. Of course, this hooks my own political resentments.

I understand defending legal abortion on grounds of libertarian principle. The problem is that the large majority of today's "liberals" don't BELIEVE in libertarian principles. How many of these "pro-choice" voters are pro-choice about guns, home schooling or the right of private organizations to choose their own members? Why doesn't someone ask Al Gore what, precisely, he is "pro-choice" about besides abortion?

Today's "liberalism" seems to be motivated entirely by a desire to turn historical, cultural and moral boundaries upside down. Shoot a duck or a feral hog?Barbaric. "Terminate" your own child? Gee, who has a right to be judgmental?

Thanks for indulging me in my non-gun-related rant.
