Rant: Hollywood Heroes

Fellow firearms enthusiasts, answer me this.

Why is it that when some shallow-end-of-the-gene-pool celebrity uses his/her/its credentials as an actor to establish their absolute rightness on every topic, we sneer and yawp that they play pretend for a living...

...while on the other paw, we reverently refer to Chuck Heston as "Moses" and Clint Eastwood as "Dirty Harry?"

Dammit, they were playing pretend too! Heston is NOT Moses, and Eastwood is NOT Harry Callahan!

Do you see the double-standard here, frenzenbayburs?

Dear Thugs:
I am willing to die to protect my freedom.
Are you willing to die trying to take it?

Coinneach:

I think "Moses" and "Dirty Harry" are more akin to terms of endearment than a reflection of reality.

Don't forget that most horror/slasher/stalker films rely on infantile/defenseless/incompetent "protagonists" to make the film work well. How many "psycho stalks teens" films would be still compelling to a viewer that realizes that the "insurmountable threats" show would fall to a good dog and a 12 gauge in real life?

Go get 'em, boy! ;)

What about the other side of the coin, when someone otherwise distasteful advocates for your cause? Case in point: Ted Nugent the hunter/firearms enthusiast is a pretty cool guy. Ted Nugent the musician made racially disparaging remarks affecting several million people in multiple public forums--not very cool, not very smart.

Generally, I agree that celebrity in and of itself doesn't make anyones opinion more credible than mine, whether I agree or not, it simply means they have a machanism to broadcast their views which I don't. If you've "been there, done that" I'll give your position some weight.

I often say the same when someone tells me about this "great" new horror flick. I think they are very boring. Heck many of them would fall to the dog alone and you could save the shotshell (or slug).

I would like to see a horror flick were the boogey man bumps into a Gunsite or Thunder Ranch (or equiv) Female graduate. He he :D

Cornered Volk :D has hit the nail on the head as to why I detest/dislike/hate/loathe/eschew "Scream", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", etc, etc. The first "Scream" would have been over in the first 15 min if Drew Barrymore had a 12 ga., and then we could have been spared "Scream 2: The Producer Wants a New 6000 sq. ft. House". Banality at its finest.

(I finally got to use that smiley ! :))

Burt Gummer, my favorite fictional movie hero

Let's go waste some Graboids!!!

What gets me is the fact that so many of the anti's wouldn't have jobs if not for guns. Even Rosie, I heard made a movie or two and used a gun.

Hollywood heroes? Except for Jimmy Stewart and Audie Murphy, there ain't no Hollywood heroes. All the rest are just actors, mostly bad actors.
