Range Tuesday

Was shooting the little Marlin, nothing serious just having fun. After shooting my swinging boar offhand till I couldn't hold on I decide to shoot a few groups. I didn't have my bench setup so like I said, nothing serious.

I remove the magazine & single loaded directly into the chamber. Things were going well when it happen. An odd sound & smell. Pulled the case & sure enough it had split at the head. Of the 22LR ammo I've fired this is a first for me.

Did you check..

for bore obstruction? Just thinking with that much venting to the rear, there might not have been enough pressure to push the bullet all the way out of the muzzle

Are these Bulk-Pack ammo?

Pulled the case & sure enough it had split at the head.

I had the same thing happen to me on some Federal Bulk Packs, from Walmart. However, you are using Winchester ammo, so I can't explain this. In general, I don't trust "any" Bulk-Pack ammo as I have had problems with too many brands. ...

The bullet left the barrel, I watched it go into the paper. Had I been plinking I hope I would have checked the barrel. Hope I would.
