Range Time

Went to the range with my Daughter yesterday, she took her Ruger SR22. She had found some Remington Thunderbolt and wanted to try it. Normally she shoots either CCI Blazer or CCI MiniMags thru it. She got about 20rds of the Thunderbolts thru it and it starting jamming. Great teaching aid to teach clearance drill, but after she finish the box, she was ready to quit for the day. I had her field strip and brush out the barrel. Chunks of lead came out with the rifling and had wax buildup in the chamber. She got it clean up, put back together, and fired 50rds of CCI Blazer, without a single problem. She cleaned afterwards and there was no leading of the barrel at all.

I do like spending time with my daughter at the range, but when the opportunity arrives to help teach a valuable skill, like clearance drills, makes the time even better.

Sounds like a great day.
Yeah, folks seem to like to complain when their equipment acts up, instead of using the opportunity to practice dealing with problems that will eventually show up when least expected, sooner or later.
I have a pistol that badly needed a new extractor; the old one had lost tension and was causing jams.
But it was great practice clearing those jams, and my slap - rack skills greatly improved continuing to use it as-is.
I kept the old extractor for when those skills need refreshing.
