Range time with '58 Remmie

Finally made it to the range with my new BP revolver. I have to say, it is the most fun to shoot of any of my guns. My son, a Marine sniper, could put all six balls in a 1 1/2" circle at 15 yards. The accuracy and balance makes it a joy to shoot. I even like the sulphur smell. I'm already plotting my next purchase. I'm thinking a '60 Colt army, maybe. My only regret is waiting so long to get started in my new hobby.

60 Colts are fun. Then there's the 51 Navy and the Walker and the Patterson and......................................:D

Some years ago a friend let me shoot his "original J-Frame" BP revolver. It was a replica Colt 1862 Police with the 5 1/2" barrel. This little 5-shot .36 caliber balanced beautifully in the hand and pointed well. I still think about buying one someday...

58 remmie

Hi jbb, glad to here you had fun with your 58,and so did i 13 years ago.
And still going stong. For strenth and realibty you can not beat a 58.
I like the look of a 60 and a 51,Remember what wild bill said it never let
him down.I shoot bp and smokeless thru my remmie its a blast.
Colt style have not last to long with me, what i mean they work lose
and fall apart, my 58 is still going strong after all these years. No matter
what you shoot................have fun.

Glad you like your remy. In my experience its the only bp revo that can be shot accuratly from the factory. The reason being the front sight is tall enough to hit poa. The 47,48,51 and 60's I've fired have all shot very high limiting their use to very large targets or close range protection. The 58 however I've taken small game with. Have fun

I shot a uberti in 1858 remington 44 cal in matches and at 25yds and it will shoot 10 shots under 3 inches all day long. I won at lease 75 match with this load.. 18gr FFF about 22gr of instant cream of wheat to bring ball to ft of cylinder and my grease over ball. at matches only real black and no wonder wads permited back in 80's ..So if your not get groups under 3 inches at 25 yds in a remmy repro your doing something wrong. the orginal will do 2 inches

What kind / charge are you using?

Well I do recall there used to be Dupont Bulk Smokeless that was loaded volume for volume like black, it gave about the same velocities as black. I don't know what the pressures were tho.

I use 777 thru my 1858 with good results. Great revolver!
