Range Time & The Ruger

Went down to the range Thursday. Got up to 67, 29 now with 8" snow. Shot
20 times. First 5 OK. Downhill from that. Found out I can no longer hold the
Ruger up. Don't want to, but might have to sell her. Going back to my 36
Rem. A whole lot lighter.

Glad to hear I'm not the only nutter that went to the range with a cap 'n ball in the snow.
Keep the faith, it's just the comin' out 'o hibernation shakes. they'll go away come July.:D

Some guns are better suited for one handed target shooting and other guns are more meant to be fun plinking guns or hunting guns for two handed shooting.

Maybe the additional strength and capacity that helps to make the Ruger an "over-built" revolver is what also makes it less of a target shooter and more of a hunting model.

A single gun can't always be best suited for both purposes. :)

I've always considered the ROA with adjustable sights as the premier target revolver among the black powder ranks. I know mine shoots as good if not better than my 1858 'shooters' model. They make an excellent hunting revolver with their generous chamber size, even that can be bored out for increased capacity.

Its those heavy loads and big bullets you are shooting. Drop back to round balls and 50 grains of powder and you'll be fine. ;)

Just kidding, of course, "k". I have no idea what you are shooting.

Yea, it's only been shot about 50 times. It's that 40 grs 7 F and 300 gr.
bullets that's getting to me. I'm 67

If you do decide to sell, just remember that they aren't made any more and the prices are going nuts and will only get worse as supply is depleted. Currently there are still new in box models being pulled from storage. If you don't have to sell; hang on for a little while and recoup your investment.

As Ronald Reagan always said, "Well..."

I would take Rob's advice but for a different reason. I see the prices of pistols on Gunbroker going down including the prices on ROAs. A couple of the people at the show yesterday reported a similar trend.

The economy is hitting all of us hard. Consequently the number of folks who have the money to buy things that are not essential is getting smaller. (Please understand I think an ROA is essential)

I would hang onto it until the economy turns around....Or forever, whichever comes later.
