Range Report: Springfield Professional

Went to the range last night with a few guns. Popped off a mag through my V-10 to check the new Wilson beavertail, and then ran the rest of the box of American Eagle 230gr FMJ through the Springfield Professional.

As expected of a 1911 with the outrageous MSRP of some $2200, it shot like a champ. The first magazine or two were kind of scattered, as I was transitioning from the lighter STI trigger on the V-10, but by mag #3 I was pretty much able to pick which part of the orange on a CM-1 target I wanted to shoot.

The gun is an assemblage of some pretty top-shelf stuff; Nowlin barrel, S&A magwell, Novak night sights, five Wilson mags, etcetera, and it has the absolutely, no-lie tightest barrel-to-slide lockup I've felt on a production gun. Probably a bit too tight. On the second-to-last mag I had one FTF, the last round failed to make it around the second corner. I'm sure it will wear in just fine, and it'll absolutely suck having to shoot it a lot to help it do so. ;)

Fit-and-finish-wise, my only complaint is that you'd think at this price point that they could have done better with the teflon coating on the beavertail.

Just curious (and I am NOT throwing off on it)...

What kind of finish is on that thang, Tamara? It looks kind of splotchy... was it dirty or just a bad photo or does it just look funny on my computer monitor, or what?

"a 1911 with the outrageous MSRP of some $2200"

uuufff...... (like jumping into 30 degree water and struggling for air)

Wow!!!

Enjoy.

lonegunman,

The finish is a Black-T like teflon. It still has oil on spots from cleaning it at work this morning, plus fingerprints and such that were invisible to my eye but sure turned up under the zillion-candlepower glare of the lamp in the flatbed scanner.

Mo_zam_beek,

MSRP, actual street price, wholesale and "what Tamara actually shelled out for the gun" are four different numbers. The MSRP may be $2.2k, but actual street prices are running closer to $1600-1800. This particular barely-used example was traded in at our shop on a Springfield Loaded 1911A1 and a Para-Ordnance P-12.45 Limited. Recognizing a rare opportunity when I saw one, I snagged it immediately. ;)

Nice pick up!
Darn, to have to spend time breaking in that thing. I hear your arm twisting all the way over here!

slickpuppy,

Yeah, probably he will.

Seeing as how this makes 1911 number (ten? twelve? I can't even remember...), maybe I'll realize its' infinite superiority and burn all my other pistols. ;)

Here's a pic of the new addition with its baby brother:

You most definitely have good taste in pistols. Wise move on snagging that one.

I notice a bit of wear on the beavertail where it is contacting the frame? A minor annoyance. Overall, it looks to be an excellent pickup there.

I guess when you rule, you rule ;)

Now where's those Britney cds I've been meaning to send you? :barf:

What ever you do - Don't put a BOBTAIL on it!

Don't worry, George. If she ever openly contemplates surgical alterations to this pistol, I will take it away from her and replace it with a Firestorm in the middle of the night.

Tamara,

Do any good ones escape your hawklike gaze? I bet that thing didn't even make it to the display case.

Definately a good snag!

You gotta love those deals. Stopped in the shop that I help out in, and there was a Sig P229 w/ less than 50rds fired and 5 factory mags and two holsters. After asking the standard "How much?" I walked out w/ the Sig for a grand total of $500. Don't think that I did too bad.

Be safe
Mike

I got to try this puppy out this weekend. Talk about a religious experience! The Pro is the single best evidence for the existence of a loving God I've ever found. It made even me look like I knew what I was doing on the range.
