Range report:
Savage 93 BTVS 22 WMR
Barska Ridgeline 2-7X32mm scope
Hornady 30gr V-Mag ammo
All 5-shot groups from the 50 yard line
The rifle was purchased at Buds Gunshop in Lexington Ky, on Friday March 18, 2011. I finally got to shoot it today, Sunday March 20. Dale at Buds installed the scope and bore-sighted the rifle for me. The overall experience at Buds was great; the people are courteous, knowledgeable and friendly.
This rifle impressed me with its accuracy from the first shot. The first group was several inches off to the right. I adjusted the windage which brought the second group much closer. I tweaked the elevation and windage which brought the third group just to the right edge of center. One more windage adjustment and I "got the red out". The groups were fired from the bench with the forestock resting on my range bag. I'm very impressed with the accuracy of this Savage rifle. It makes me look good. I'm in my seventies and haven't shot groups like that in several decades. I'm positive this rifle will shoot one ragged hole when weilded by a younger person with steadier nerves and better eyesight.
Overall the fit and finish of the rifle was quite good, pretty much what one would expect of a .22 at this price point ($400.00 for the base rifle with no sights). I find fault in two areas. First is the attachment of the stock to the barrel. It is held on with two bolts, one at the rear through the front part of the trigger guard; with the metal trigger guard acting as a bushing between the bolt and the wood. The other attachment point is at the front of the magazine well thru the metal of the magazine well and there is no support beneath, so if you tighten that bolt just a little too much you wind up bending the rather flimsy metal of the magazine well. The other fault is with the factory supplied magazine itself. When ejecting the first spent brass, all remaining rounds in the magazine pop up and out as well. Fortunately I'd purchased two additional magazines, both of whih performed flawlessly. A third issue, though not a fault, is that the tool to adjust the Accu-trigger was not included in the box.
Altogether I put 200 rounds thru the gun and other than the total failure of the factory magazine, there were no failures of any sort. The rifle performed flawlessly.
