Range report on Ruger .45

Took my Ruger Bisley Vaquero to the range yesterday. I shot my first "Made for Ruger only" .45 Colt loads. WOW! First I shot my standard 250 grain round nose lead flat point loads which clocked 919 fps. Respectable but still pretty tame. Then I tried some Hornady 300 grain XTP/HP backed up by Hodgden H110. 1183 fps and twice as many foot pounds of energy. It was like shooting two different handguns. Why did I think I needed a .44mag anyway? Not that I wouldn't mind having a .44, but this makes the absence a little easier to take. Accuracy was only so-so, but I still need to get used to the gun, and I still have room for some fine tuning on the load. I'm just getting warmed up! I am looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with my new found friend.

Mark,

Sounds like you had fun! :D

I loaded some H-110 and 250gr lead bullets to 1350+ fps, and they are a handful!

It's not a max load for my Blackhawk, but as hot as I care to shoot! :)
