range report on MK40 / new backup for K40

well the Mk40 is a sweet number. it is smooth to shoot and if anything is more accurate that its big brother the K40. my K40 has a Harrt's recoil rod and an extra power recoil spring and the MK40 shoots just as good or better right out of the box.
any comparison to the Glock 27 i shot the other day would be in caliber alone. the Glock has higher capacity but has a chunky short handle and recoiled like a bear (to me). i shot the MK40 over 100 rounds with PMC 165 grain FMJ and was sorry i was out of ammo
i think i have a real combo here. the K40 set up sweet for carry in a Kramer belt scabbard or Wilson IWB holster and the MK40 for carry in a Pocket holster or in a weak side belt holster. i have been carrying the MK40 in a Jaguar pocket holster in my back jeans pocket for a couple of days and i seem to forget it is there.
both the K40 and the MK40 can use the same extra 6 round Kahr stainless magazine i carry in my front pocket.
i was playing around today shooting one in each hand alternating sighted fire between the two (ala gunfighter style) and tearing up badguy targets out to 25 yards.
MAN I LIKE THIS. MORE TO COME

How did you find the recoil in comparison to the K40? I have a K40 which (as you know) is set up like yours, and was thinking about a smaller Kahr for pocket or bellyband carry. I haven't shot either of the MK's, but was leaning more toward the MK9 because of recoil; I'm not really that recoil sensitive, and find the K40 a joy to shoot. If the MK40 is just as easy to shoot, it would seem to make a better system in combination with the K40. How is the 2-finger grip, and did you find it controllable without the extended mag? I've shot the Glock 27, and found it a little hard to control without the grip extension. Thanks for the info.

there is no comparison between the recoil of the G27 and the MK40. the Mk40 is easier to control and is a touch more accurate in my hands. i am still stratching my head over all this but i am an experienced shooter and i know how the two guns felt to me.
compared to the K40; it is no suprise that the K40's grip with wooden stocks feels better in my hands. as far as recoil, the MK40 has more muzzle flip but for some reason i was grouping better with the MK40 than i was with my K40. all things considered, if i had to keep only one gun, with the size, comfort and carry factors i would keep the MK40 and sell the K40 as i feel i can shoot the MK just as well and it rides SO comfortable in a pocket holster. having said that i hope that issue never comes up as they are natural companion weapons. just the ammo and clip combo for backup reloads is a real selling point. OH yeah once you shoot the 5 round clip dry in the MK40 and insert your 6 round full size backup clip you have a neet pinkie rest. although i did not notice any difference in my groups with or without the pinkie rest. all things said if you already own a K40 then the MK40 is the logical and natural backup gun. unless you shoot a lot different than me you won't go wrong.

currently i am using a Jaguar pocket holster made for an AMT .400 Cor@bon Backup. it fits the MK40 perfectly. it is a kind of minimum arrangement. it consists of a stiff piece of plastic covered with a rough leather. sewn to it is a loop of the same rough leather that is not really a formed fit. in fact it seems loose when you put the gun in it. however once in the pocket the whole system comes together. the stiff piece breaks up the gun's outline and the loop holds the gun upright in the pocket were the grip is always at the top tof the pocket.
i think i paid $30.00 for it from thier web site. i think i was searching under pocket holsters or holsters, the company name is jaguar products i think.
i have been looking real hard at Rosen and Kramer pocket holsters but i can not seem to be able to press that send button on an $85.00 pocket holster.
i also have a pocket holster i made by purchasing a cordura holster for a small frame auto designed for velcro attachment to a body armor vest. i stitched onto it a square piece of stiff plastic sheeting with rounded edges i bought from a craft store. idid the work with a leather awl setup i have had for years. the result was a comfortable pocket holster that hides the gun and the square corners catch the pocket on the draw and so the holster do not come out.
