Range Report - My new girlfriend Model 60LS

Ok so I finally got to the range with my Model 60 Ladysmith. I loaded it up with some .357 JHP to start out and worked my way down through some .38+P and then some regular 38 range ammo.

This thing is wonderful. It is lighter and smaller then our SP101 but soaks up the .357 much better. It was almost a pussycat with .357, although a lot of muzzel flip did occur.

I ran through about 50 rounds of .357 and couldn't seem to stop myself from over controlling until about the last ten. My last ten grouped well and were center mass at about 10 Yards. My previous 40 were all hits at 10 and 15 yards but low, gut shots due to me anticipating the recoil. Last three rounds were 10 yard head shots each hole touching each other.

The .38 +P was easy to control but had a wicked muzzel flash. Fun stuff. No problem keeping them all center mass at 15, 10 and 5 yards.

The 38 range stuff was kept at 15 yard all center mass and grouped very very well for me, 49 out of 50 hits. One round landed at the very very bottom of the target paper. Missed the black totally. Not sure what happened there, maybe a flyer, light load? Not really sure I would have missed one round out of 50 when the other 49 were just where I wanted them.

So anyway this little snubbie is accurate, especially for my first time firing it, controllable with 357 and looks damn good. It conceals in a pocket with no muss or fuss and with a little more practice I would feel confident packing .357 in it so that makes her a pretty powerful little package.

I did my shooting both double and single action with the majority being double action to get used to the trigger pull.

All in all I am extremely impressed with this gun. The price was right, it is put together very well, looks good, and is light enough for pocket carry but soaks up the recoild of .357 very nicely.

I give it two thumbs up.

I've been wanting a 60LS for quite some time (either an older .38spl only version or one of the newer .357 chambered 60s). Your report has just amped that up several notches. Please stop:D .

Wow. My Taurus 605 (similar design to a J-frame S&W) is horrible with .357s and a Ruger SP101 I shot actually was pretty decent despite only being an ounce heavier. I figured the Ruger was designed better for handling the .357 round. By most accounts the SP101 is probably the best small snub for handling .357mag recoil. Now I really need to get myself a 60LS.

Remember Recoil is Subjective

To me the 60LS soaks up the recoil better than the SP101. Could be how I am holding the gun due to different grips I dunno. So don't take what I said as doctrine about it soaking recoil up better simply because we all feel recoil differntly depending on a whole series of factors.

Other than that. This this is great. I love it. I was a little hesitent at first and almost went with another SP101, I can't say how happy I am with the direction I decided to go.

If you pick one up let me know what you think about the recoil?

That is very true, though the difference I felt in the SP101 v. my Taurus was more than the one ounce worth. It was certainly something in the design. I know there are some changes in the Taurus in comparison to the S&W J-frames they are patterned after. Maybe some of these changes make the S&W better at handling recoil.

If you've ever shot a Taurus 605 how would it compare to your 60LS? Same question to anyone else out there who has shot both.

Would you believe I have never shot a Taurus revolver. The only Taurus I have ever shot was a friends PT92.

So I can't help you there.

You mean like this one? :D It was quite pleasant to shoot with 125gr JHP's which are the most intense to me, in snubbies.
Gorgeous gun......absolutely nice.
Shoot well
