Range Report: Model 10 2" w/ Pics!

Some of you know that I recently traded my 3" Model 36 in nickel for a 2" Model 10. My new (to me) Model 10 is a 10-5, and based on the serial number it was made in 1966-67. Mine has a serial number toward the end of the range of those years, so it's probably a 1967.

It was fitted with a trigger shoe and a grip adapter. The trigger shoe immediately came off. It seemed silly for a 2" gun and the shoe was wider than the trigger guard which I think is dangerous for carry. The grip adapter is a Pachmayr, which seems cheap, but works great. It's like a Tyler-T, but it's mostly plastic and doesn't have any grooves or swells.

I took it out to the range today. I ran 100 or so of my reloads through it and a cylinder of my preferred carry load (Buffalo Bore 158gr LHP standard pressure).

The trigger is a million times nicer than a j-frame trigger, and I can handle the recoil of the Buffalo Bore a lot better.

Here's a group. Steady fire, 7 yards, the red in the center is 1" in diameter.

I'm loving this gun. I even took some shots at 20 yards and was getting about 5" groups, which is pretty good for me!

This is my second Model 10. If you don't have one, you're missing out.

Revolver design hasn't advanced much since it's debut

Pretty much peaked with the Military and Police.

Very nice!

I'm a Colt guy but that means the 1911.

When it comes to a revolver, the good old M&P (Model 10) is the best.

Come to think of it, as pretty and nice as Colt revolvers were, they never could hold up to the Smiths for a lot of double action work. Owned quite a few Pythons but none could compare to a Model 27, model 586 or a Model 19.

Makes me think I've got to go find a beat up scarred Model 10. Usually doesn't matter how they look, they seem to always work great.

Thanks! I'm really excited about it. I hope to get to shoot it again soon. I have 200 rounds loaded up, and now I have 100 pieces of brass I need to reload, lol. Has anyone figured out how to spend more time at the range than at the reloading bench?

Not bad at all. About the way my Model 12 shoots.

Nice looking one you got too. Those grip adapters give 'em a sort of old school look I like a lot.

But then. I'm old myself.

Very nice! Great shooting too! Congrats on your new 10 snub!

I currently CCW a Model 36 snub and like the size of it as I carry OTB. It's a nice shooting revolver . . . but if I ever run across one like your Model 10 snub, it's coming home with me. The J frame is great . . don't get me wrong . . but the K frame is greater . . . IMHO. I have a Combat Masterpiece 4" and a M & P 5" - both great shooting K frames and a K frame snub just seems like a natural addition.

Thanks for posting . . . and enjoy that nice Smith! You are a lucky man . . . :)

Thanks, folks! I'm looking forward to shooting it more and carrying it more.

I'm really happy with the concealment. It doesn't seem any harder to hide than my 3" j-frame. When I bought the gun, they had one pancake holster that fit the gun. It's nice enough, but it doesn't have a thumb break strap. When holstered on the belt, the rig is a bit top heavy, so I'm constantly checking to see if the gun is riding up out of the holster. Of course, this is partially my own inexperience, but I went ahead and ordered a Bianchi Black Widow, which has a strap.
