I just got my Mini-14 Ranch back from Clark Custom Guns. I had them install the G.B.S. (Barrel Stabilizer) and had the trigger lightened. First impressions: The thing looks kinda like a supressor and adds about another 1.5lbs to the front weight of the rifle. The trigger is very nice and crisp though, measuring in at 2.5lbs. Now the range report:
First groups I started shooting did not show a drastic improvement (I'm still getting used to the light trigger). I was using 50gr American Eagle HP ammo and decided to switch to the Winchester 45gr. USA brand ammo (white box). Also I had to stop the first session because the G.B.S. came lose. Went home and added locktite to the threads and torqued it to specs. No problems since then.
Second trip to the range proved some amazing results using the Winchester ammo. I started averaging groups around 1" - 2" and my best 5 shot group measured under an inch at 7/8"(shown below). What I noticed was that I had to time my shots and not rush them too much. I wait about 2 min. between each shot.
The G.B.S. does change the barrel harmonics and is "ammo sensitive". Now it is up to me to keep this consistent and look for that 10 5 shot group under 1". Overall, I am very satisfied with Clark Custom http://www.clarkcustomguns.com and recommend this "tool" to Mini-14 owners who are looking to update and better the accuracy of their Ranch rifles.
