Went to the range today to test drive (rent) a Glock .45 and a Keltec P32. I also wanted to test my Walther PPK/s for reliability and compare the Beretta Tomcat against the P32. Oh yeah, and I had a dozen Osama Bin Laden targets that needed some holes.
My completely subjective results after 90 minutes of shooting:
Glock .45
I am going to buy a model 30 ASAP, although I rented a model 21. I talked my reluctant wife into shooting it and now she wants her own. Recoil feels less sharp than my Glock .40 and definetly less than the Glock .357.
Walther PPK/s .380
It jammed twice in a hundred rounds; that was the final straw and I'm going to sell it. I've shot it on about 5 occasions and I think it's jammed every friggin' time. I don't need that crap as I've got a completely reliable SIG P232 that fits the same size/weight/.380 bill. Spent 20 minutes un-jamming it when I coulda been shootin.
Beretta Tomcat .32 vs. Keltec P32
I went to the range thinking that I'd buy a KT P32 if I liked it. I'd never shot one, but liked the diminutive weight at the gun show last week. I noticed that it's not THAT much smaller than the Tomcat, altghouh it is lighter and narrower. The trigger pull on the P32 is REALLY long. Pull and keep pullin. Possibly because of this the accuracy is much less than the Tomcat. Both were reliable; no problems in about 100 rounds each. The Tomcat does bite my finger a little bit and it's very hard to chamber the first round by racking the slide (although you can just pop up the barrel too.)
Well, gotta go order a Glock 30. Happy shootin!
