Range Report: CZ75B

Let me begin by apologizing for doubting all those posters who recommended this pistol. I handled them several times at the gun shop and always ended up walking away. Yesterday I had a extra couple hundred bucks and decided what the Hell. I hit the the range today with an assortment of other 9mms and the new aquisition. Brought lots of ammo with 200 rounds of it earmarked for the CZ. The first 5 rounds out of the gun went into a 1" group at 15 yards, offhand, slowfire. I was pleasantly amazed. Subesquent shooting was comparable. All shooting was done single action as I doubt I will ever use the double action feature except on a practice session misfire. The trigger actually got better during the relatively few rounds of the session and seemed pretty crisp towards the end. There was only one jam where a spent case got stuck in the ejection port, seemed pretty improbable and I think it was a fluke, but more testing will be a pleasure. My only other complaint is that the mags do not want to drop free and they must be ripped from the well. Perhaps they will wear in so that do drop free or I may have to relieve some metal.

Blade Techs website mentions they make a holster for this thing. Anyone know of a leather supplier? I may have a new carry weapon.

AndABeer,

Congratulations on making an excellent choice. Dillon carries a black holster for the CZ 75B, "The Master" for $41.95. Never tried one myself: just know they exist.

On the lack of drop free mags, see this thread on the OLD CZ Forum. It may help you on resolving your issue. It's interesting, but the CZ 75B in .40 caliber comes set up as drop free already: no changes required. Why CZ did it this way is anybodies guess.

Enjoy!

usually Europian gun does not have drop free magazine release,
US more worry about fast magazine change,
Europe more worry about secure magazine holding in the gun. (have you seen mag release for makarov or AK-47?)

European military doctorine is to retain a magazine, hence the lack of drop free magazines and heel magazine releases.

The mags AREN'T supposed to drop free in the CZ-75B... but they do in the CZ-85. You can order the CZ-85 part (for about $6 from CZ) or you can tweak the top of the mag retention spring inside the grip, shortening it a bit. I used needle nose pliers to turn the end of the spring a little more. When you take the grips off you'll see and understand.

Be careful, though: the springs are brittle metal (he says knowingly), and they'll break easily.

(I've had a CZ-75b, and now have a CZ-85 Combat. Great guns.)

Just about any holster made to accomodate the Beretta 92 will work with the CZ. I also picked up a Fobus holster for use at the range, and use the adjustable Dillon paddle holster for the Glock 19; you can adjust a few screws and it works perfectly. I've also had Wild Bill (at http://www.wildbillsconcealment.com/home.html) make me an IWB holster for it; he holsters are all custom made for the gun in question, and are great quality at a very good price.

Congrats on your purchase!!!!

What I and my friends found with the CZ pistols is that they must pour a few gallons of oil on them before they box them up :)

I had to take mine home and clean all the excess oil off before my range time.

As for the ftf you may have limp wristed the pistol. Don't hold it against your new baby. If that was the only failure then I would try a few hundred more rounds.

On my Champion model the mags don't drop on the ground, but, they do pop out about halfway from the mag well when I hit the release.

Looking at the various mags their is slight finish removal. Maybe some wax or armorall on the mags would help?

They fall free enough to easily grasp and pull out with my support hand as I reach down for a spare. You can let it drop to the ground, or retain it if you choose.
