Newbie Question....

My local range will rent a clay pigeon thrower for $20 an hour. Is there anything wrong with my buddy and I taking turns throwing clay pigeons in the air?

No nothing wrong with it only a clay target trower will throw it farther and faster usually. Is the thrower manually operated or does it have a motor on it to cock it? If it has a motor on it it would be worth it if you are going to shoot alot plus you both can shoot at the same time then.

that doesn't work; you can't throw them by hand. You can,, they just don't go anywhere. I had a friend that I brought to the range who throws a 90 mph fastball to throw one, it just flipped out of control after about 20 ft of air.

$20 is stiff; i pay $9 for a range fee that lets me shoot anything at lots of different targets (short range handgun, longrange handgun, short range rimfire, longgggg range centerfire rifle, and shotgun range). YOu get unlimited use of spring powered throwers. At another range i pay $18 to shoot my handguns (but its a really nice, interactive targets) and $6 for a round of trap or skeet.

I'd find another range If i was you

Well, you are not going to get nearly as much range as if you were using even a hand thrower. You know, you can get a plastic thrower for just a few bucks, and it only takes a few tries to get the knack of using one. Throwing pigeons like baseballs sounds like not much fun, not very helpfull to your skills, and possibly dangerous.
