Range in Broward County, FL. Use own ammo.

Does anyone know of a range in Broward County Florida where you
can bring you own ammo?

Not looking to join a private club and would prefer a range in the northern end of Broward. Markham Park is way too far a drive for me.
Although, I may have to break down and make the trip some day because I would really like to become familiar with the shotgun.

Here in Palm Beach County, the law actually requires you to use ammo
bought at the range! :barf:

Figure I could shoot more often with ammo I bought on the 'net.

Ideas?

(I hear there are some places that are popular in the more wild parts of
Palm Beach County but I don't have a 4 wheeler or a swamp buggy and would rather avoid any chance of being arrested for shooting).

The county range in Markham park. I95 south to 595 west. Exit @ 136 ave. Continue west on SR84... Parl entrance will be on your right at the 2nd light. Open late wednsdays. Cowboy shoot first saturday of every month... There is also an IDPA saturday.

See ya there...

A few years ago all of the indoor ranges I know of in WPB, Lake Worth, Delray, etcetera instituted a 'buy it here' or don't shoot policy. They claimed it was for safety considerations. Recently Palm Beach Shooting Center (google them for directions) in Lake Worth changed the policy. You can buy the ammo there and pay an $8.00 range fee or bring your own and pay $15.00 for the range fee. No reloads and that really cramps my style.

Call your local range and see what they are doing now in PB county. I haven't been up to Gator Gun recently so I don't know if they've changed to the old days or not. Some of them may have gone back to allowing you to BYOA. As you know you cannot legally discharge a firearm outdoors within Palm Beach County unless it is at a licensed firing range or hunting season within proscribed limits. I hear there is a real good outdoor range north in Okeechobee but I haven't been there yet. Here is a link. I prefer outdoor shooting too but , like you , I hate to drive 50 or 60 miles one way to do it.

Thanks!

I often go to Palm Beach Shooting Center.

I didn't realize that you could pay a little extra and bring your own ammo!

Is it no longer a law or was it never a law, regarding "outside ammo"?

I don't know if you have seen Palm Beach Shooting Center's new web site.
It used to be very "Plain Jane".

Now it even has a video. It's a bit over the top. I wish they didn't have to use a "model' to show off their range and store. Real people learning to shoot would be just fine.
I could be wrong but in one clip she seems to make a major safety mistake.

Obviously the firearm should be pointed down range at all times.
She shoots some rounds and then feels "giggly" and the gun disappears from sight like she is pointing it down towards the floor.

Revere in Pompano

I live in Palm Beach also and go to Revere Gun Range in Pompano Beach.

Now this place is primitive, a little dirty and can get warm. You have to hand crank the targets down range. Also when I shoot my .44 mag it kicks up mass amount of dust, I assume lead dust. But they're inexpensive and you can shoot what you like. And they are right off I95 on Copans.

Most places in PB county are rude and expensive. Will never go to Gator Guns.

It is not and never was a law. IMO it stemmed from their frustration in people going to Walmart and buying ammo cheaper then bringing it to the range. They figured if they were the only game in town they would make more $$. They, Palm Beach Shooting Center, have a blown up S&W in the display case and claim that safety was their reason for the policy. Now, since they allow you to bring your own ammo, that is their rationalization for not allowing reloads.

Well, this must have been planned out. Since all gun range near and around Palm Beach county do this they must have know the other Ranges where doing it. Because if just one range made you buy their ammo then we would just go some where else. But since they all do it in the surrounding area then they can get away with it.

I don't know anyone in Broward county that has the "must use our ammo" rule.

Heres the kicker, they only stock common rounds, 9mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP. If you shoot a .41 mag or a .45 GAP they don't have that ammo. So they'll let you shoot your stuff. A majority of people shooting these rounds reload. Because of cost/availability. So are they really doing this for safety. NO!

It's a scam!

Funny thing, I bought another pistol, a Kahr MK40. A friend of mine and I went down to Palm Beach Shooting Center to give it a break in. I had gone to Lake Worth Guns & Ammo (no range there) and picked up a couple of 100 packs of Winchester 40 range ammo for $40.00 each.

So we go to PBSC and pay the $15.00 range fee for bringing our own ammo. I noticed that they are getting $40.00 for 50 rounds of Winchester range ammo so I'm glad I brought my own. My buddy hordes ammo and he had brought a few guns in different calibers along with his own factory new ammo.

We took our time shooting a few different calibers in different guns and checked out. The lady who works there told us she was going to give us a break and even though we had gone 15 or 20 minutes past the hour she wasn't going to charge us for another hour.

IOW, we found out that if you buy ammo there you can shoot all day for $8.00 but if you bring your own it is $15.00 per hour. Before we went there I had telephoned Gator Gun and they still have the buy the ammo there policy.

Possible good news is that an friend of mine who is a welder told me they are building a new range on Southern Blvd just east of the turnpike. He said it will be indoor but there are long lanes for rifles. Not sure when they will be built and open or what their policy on ammo will be but another alternative range to go to.
