I find myself in the market for a range finder. Light, reliable, and resonable. Please tell us about your range finder, would you buy it again?

Thanks

I personally like my eyes and the ability to read a map with grid coordinates. Never let me down yet!! Accurate out past a mile.

If you cant guesstemate or don't have a built in range finder instead of eyes I would go with the upper end nikons. My brother has one (think the monarch) he got at cabelas for around 500 and it is super precise on deer out to 800 yards. Will go farther with reflective items. Ranged a target at 1000 yards and we measured it using my gps and it was correct to the foot when compared to my gps coordinates.

for deer hunting you need to learn how to gauge distances of buy a scope like shepherd with built in range recticles. By the way the shepherd scopes and Cabelas Alaskan guide scopes with range recticles work great. and are worth the extra money instead of buying a scope and then a seperate range finder.

Bought a Nikon 400, I like it but now wish it was an 800 just for the fun of it...and yest I would buy the 400 again because I will never shoot at an animal past say 250 yards unless I have a bench to shoot from in the field...maybe 300 if I was prone and the deer size animal was standing perfectly still.

The most capable range-finder under $8000 right now is the Swarovski Laser Guide. It is a monocular and will range objects out to 2000 yards. Price is right around $900.

The best value is probably a used Leica LRF 1200, which you shoud be able to find for around $400.
