Range Day how do you do it?

It feels like I'm moving when I go to the range. Two range bags one for me one for my wife. Ammo weights a ton normally in my range bag my wife carries her bag and the bench rest. Something to try to catch the brass, then we bring between 4 to 6 guns. Each gun in its own bag... there must be an easier way.

So how do you do it? I've looked at different multi gun cases but nothing to get excited about. So what do you use and where did you get some of you coolest range carts?

A couple ideas I've heard and had were:

Rentable lockers at a gun range. Especially if you have a single favorite. Then you can stash supplies and stuff right there.

What would the issues be for storing ammo in a rented locker?

Mag loaders ... a 12 or 13 year old looking for extra income could clean up loading mags at two bits each.

I use a public national forest range so I just back my SUV up to the bench and open the rear lift hatch, I just leave everything in the back and pull out what I want. About 1/2 the people at my range do this.

Shoot I'm 20 years old college student and I would load mags just to be at the range. I would jump all over it for a little bit of extra green

Maybe something like this ?

More frequent shorter sessions worked for me.

I used to feel obligated to drag just about every gun I owned out each time I went.

Shooting fewer guns and concentrating on making each shot count with the ones I did take made a lot of difference in how well I did too.

I take a small duffle bag. It contains:
Handguns
Rifle rest
Targets
Stickers (pasters, labels, etc)
Tape
Staple gun
Markers/Pens
Overflow ammo (if I happen to be taking more than I can fit in an ammo can - a very rare situation)
A smaller "shooting" bag, which contains:
Spare magazines for handguns and one rimfire rifle
Ear plugs
Ear muffs
Cable locks (2-3, "just in case...")
Two rags
Sudafed *
Diphenhydramine *(hay fever :()
Two bore snakes
Plastic bags of various sizes
Multi-tool
Swiss Army Knife
550 cord

Add an ammo can (GI .50 BMG can, or Cabela's dry-box style)
Add all of the rifles (2-4 for a normal trip; but there have been more than 15 in the truck, before )

Two people can handle it all in one trip, so long as there are fewer than 7 or 8 rifles.

It sounds like you need to shoot less, but make it count more. ;)
(Less ammo; with each trigger pull being more important.)

Just add rifles:
With this set up, 3-4 people can shoot for 4+ hours. Condensing some of the gear, taking less ammo, taking fewer firearms, and making a smaller quantity of ammunition count for more can significantly reduce bulk and weight:

It's cheaper, if you take less gear and ammo, anyway. ;)

Hal- You hit it on the head. I use to do the same thing. Now when i go I take a max of 3 rifles and thats it. Concentrate on what you are shooting that day and next day out take 3 others.

The other post (shopping cart set up) Great idea,I see they have them at Scheels now for like $70.00.

Frankenmauser- I take one of them to,but with Chrono and stand, bench bags, note books, tape, pens, ect ect. It leaves no room for ammo in the bag,
One also needs a cooler with pop.Blanket to lay on top of bench, Blanket for under my 50 year old rear end :D Also target stands,targets.. Ok- I know- I need my own range:D

I'm lucky enough to be able to keep most everything I'll need in my car trunk. My rifle rest, seat cushion, spotting scope box with scope & safety glasses, a range box with muffs, tool kit, extra targets and pasters. When we go (wife and I) it's just a rifle or two (maybe a pistol or two also) and ammo.

The key is to be able to isolate the shooting stuff from all the other crap in the trunk. If you can do that you can sure make your life easier.:D

I used to shoot on a public range that was a little under an hour one way travel time. Because of the travel time and gas expense, I didn't go often and felt obligated to take nearly every gun I owned each time I went.

Because of that and constant safety violations, I joined a private range about 12minutes from my house. I go once a week or every other week and sometimes just take four or five rounds to shoot to test a load.

My membership pays for itself in four trips just in gas savings alone, let alone having pretty much a private range most of the time. (Most members don't use the rifle range all that much except for a couple of months prior to deer season).

:D

OK guys just to give you an idea I go almost every week and many times twice a week. Some days are shotguns, some days are pistols and others like today are rifles. We spend on average 4-5 hours per visit.

Sometimes I'll take multiple guns for the better half, especially when we're shooting pistols. She is still learning the "feel" of the different calibers. Today we shot rifles. She took one and I packed 3 one because its time to clean it anyway and I might just as well have something to clean out.

One that saw only 15 rounds.

The third is the one I spent time with almost the whole time taking a single shot and checking the target to make sure that I was learning to shoot is as well as I can. It's a new to me gun but not a new gun. I had to work on the sights to get it to hit where I was aiming. Not hard for sure but I'm a little slow and methodical when working with a new gun. Then I tried about 9 different types of ammo to see how well each worked.

Now I have some valuable information to begin working up my loads for this rifle. I'm sure that this process will take at least a few weeks of shooting for the data to hold any real value.

Today is more or less the norm for what I do.
