Range Cleaning?

Ideal Tool

Hello, everyone. I was wondering how many of you clean your rifles..handguns for that matter at the range? I have always done this. Solvents seem to work much better on fresh fouling in a warm barrel..plus all the mess..and smells..these are covered outdoor ranges..are left there.:)

I clean my firearms at home. More so because I would hate to forget or lose a part on the firingline. I use either hops9 or blue wonder gun cleaner depending on the level of fouling. The blue wonder smells like pinesol so no worries there. Then again who rodent love the smell of hops.

I've been known to run a bore snake through at the range, especially during a heavy day of shooting. This is especially important with rimfires, as they tend to get fouled up relatively quickly, and the accuracy suffers.

Anything more extensive gets done at home.

I use Wipe-Out, most effective with an overnight "soak", then patch it out...
Doesn't get any easier.

At my gun club, I usually run a patch through them, give them a light oil and then finish them when I get home.

At the public range, I clean them when I get home.

You guy's are probably the YAHOOO'S that left a pile of dirty patches in booth number 18 last weekend aren't you? When I broke in my Vanguard I cleaned it as per instruction. But I have always looked forward to cleaning after I get back to the shop, it's easier for me, I guess.:)

i only clean guns at the range when im breaking in a barrel. Any other time ill do all my cleaning at home. Since i only live 5 minutes from the range, the barrel is still nice and warm when i get home

Well if you go to the range if you're planning on a fair amount of shooting it's pretty easy to put your rod/rangebox/cleaning kit in with it. Short answer is if you like the rifle clean it well every 15-20 roundsfor high intensity small calibers, 25-30 for the bigger stuff.

I clean my Mosin Nagant right after firing at the range. I do the couple patches of windex followed by a good amount of oil. From everything I read this is the best and easiest way to neutralize the corrosive ammo.

Everything else I clean at home. I don't think I have cleaned my Savage Mark II yet...

I've only done it when breaking in barrels (although I've read conflicting reports of the effectiveness of break-in, I figure it can't hurt all that much) and a quick clean after shooting corrosive ammo. I am too detailed and easily distracted to get it done while still there. Also I like to let bore solvents soak a bit sometimes, so I will do the cleaning in stages while I do something else in between.

Only when shooting surplus ammo in my milsurps. A couple patches well soaked in Hoppe's #9. Then give them a thorough cleaning when I get home.

Muzzle loaders the same (real muzzle loaders with real black powder)
A couple patches of wonder lube after every 3 shots.
