Range bags

What do you guys use for range bags? Can you post pics, and give some details about them? maybe list the pros and cons? Thanks.

I use one of the large Craftsman tool bags. If you watch for sales, they can usually be had in the $20-30 dollar range. Lots of little inside pockets for magazines and smaller items, and many outside pockets as well.

Rooster canvas tool bag with leather bottom. Bought it over two decades ago. It doesn't shout, "Gonne!" whenever you go anywhere.

cases, bags, tool boxes...

There are a few high quality bags & kits out there.
I used a great plastic lockable MTM case with 2 sections.
For nylon or fabric bags, I'd check these popular models; Maxpedition, 5.11 Tactical, Blackhawk, VooDoo Tactical, CSM Gear.

For firearms, I highly suggest a Bore-Store bag to protect them from rust & damage(nicks, scuffs, etc).
For ordering see; www.uscav.com www.galls.com www.policehq.com www.blackhawk.com www.midwayusa.com www.natchezss.com .

NOTE; some "armed professionals" prefer the low profile range bags w/o decals or logos. It may prevent thefts or any hassles when you travel.

I've been using this heavy duty tool bag made by CLC Custom Leathercraft for about 3 years now. After going through a couple range bags over the years, I decided to look for a quality large tool bag because they're designed for heavy loads and heavy duty use. I also needed something a little larger because of other family members sometimes making the trip to the range with me. In the center main compartment I can carry about a dozen boxes of ammo on the floor of the bag with room for 5 or 6 handguns in padded carry pouches. Also a few accessories like a couple of pair of hearing protectors and such. Other side compartments carry paper targets, ear plugs, eye protection, mags, a few gun tools and some basic lube and cleaning stuff. I like it alot because it can carry everything I need for a range trip and fully loaded, the shoulder strap is definitely a plus.

Now I use one from 5.11 tactical, $120ish, can pack it heavier than I'd prefer to carry at the range. Only have a novelty pic I took of it. Traveling so can't take a better new pic.

I'm trying to find something myself. I have a knock-off of the 5.11 up above I think, but it's just a bit small in overall dimensions for the CTK Brass Catcher. I'd like to fit it into the range bag. Anyone have any leads on a range bag, or something with enough pockets and organizers to lend itself to the function that's say 16.5x16.5 or better?

I couldn't find a pink bag with a biohazard symbol and "Dirty Diapers" on it, so I say use this one:

If you have to leave it in the car, no one will guess it has guns in it.

The heavy CLC or Craftsman style tool bags work great, are stronger than most true range bags, and do not look 'gunny'.

I use an East German day pack that I got from CTD for $5. Its not as big as all the other ones but it holds what I need it to. I keep my pistols in a separate hard case so the range back is just for targets, an old towel, ear/eye protection, Gerber multi tool, mags and ammo. Its wicked strong too..

I shoot IDPA and you've got to shuffle from stage to stage. I like to have the bag on my back instead of in my hands.

Also, with this style of bag, you have several small compartments, but what I like more is how the bag opens up all the way. Then you aren't digging for anything, it all is laying there flat.

I got a Competition Range Bag from Midway back in March of 2009. It is in fact two bags in one. Has two zippered pistol rugs inside, along with a spent case drawstring bag and a small bag I use for glasses and ear plugs. I couldn't be happier. I got it on sale at $39.99 back then. I also bought one for my Dad and he likes his very well.
