Randy Newman's "Political Science"

"No one loves us, I don't know why,
We may not be perfect, but Heaven knows we try,
And all around, even our old friends put us down,
Let's drop the Big One and see what happens.

We gave them money, but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful,
They don't respect us, so let's surprise them,
We'll drop the Big One and pulverize them.

Now, Asia's too crowded, and Europe's too old,
Africa is too damned hot and Canada's too cold,
And South America stole our name,
Let's drop the Big One, they'll be no one left to blame us.

We'll save Australia,
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo,
We'll build an all American amusement park there,
They got surfin', too!

Boom goes London, and boom Paree,
More room for you and more room for me,
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town,
Oh, how peaceful it'll be,
We'll seat everybody free!
You'll wear a Japanese kimono, baby,
There'll be Italian shoes for me!

They all hate us anyhow, so let's drop the Big One now.
Let's drop the Big One now!

This has become my standard reply to any and all anti-American sentiment.

Well, if that ain't a blast from the past!!!

Randy Newman is among my most favorite correct politically incorrect composers. This was one of his best.

Isn't it interesting that the cities Randy mentions in that classic song are our friends and not our enemies? When he wrote that communism was on the march, and our bombs were aimed at Moscow and Peking, not Paris and London.

I guess it relates to our pathetic need to be loved.
The big boy on the block doesn't get a lot of hugs.

That certainly brings back memories. I saw Randy around 1980 in concert. He did this song, and it was as great then as now. I never did know the name of the song. It was always just "Boom goes London, and boom Paree" to me.

Caliban: Yep, it's the same guy.
