Ram Line Magazine Malfuctions

I have a Ruger 10/22 (22lr) that I have been using for the last 10 years with 50 round Ram Line plastic magazines. I have recently been experiencing failure to feed, where the round hits the ramp and sticks. A push on the bolt normally closes the bolt but at that point the round will not fire. I clear the round and it fires fine from there. Typically I get 10 jams per magazine after about 50 rounds and 1 or 2 per magazine when the rifle is clean. I am using three of the 50 rounders and they all malfunction (after all three worked fine up this problem). What is interesting is that I get no jams with the Ruger 10 round factory rotary magazine. The next step is to try the 50 rounders in my buddies 10/22. I have also tried replacing the recoil spring without it helping. What do you guys think?..Bogger

I have experienced this exact same problem with the ramline 25 round magazines. Four of them to be exact. Maybe it is a defect in them? Anybody else have problems with them? I never did get them to work right again and ended up trashing them.

The plastic on Ram-line mag feed lips wears away after a few thousand rounds. My 2 50rders and 2 30rders will no longer feed properly. After a while, the plastic will become brittle and start to crack. The only viable option for 10/22 magazines are ones with steel feed lips. It's too bad no one ever merged that concept with the excellent Ram-line ribbon spring concept. Check some of the specific 10/22 boards. There are some folks engaged in repairing and rebuilding these mags. My magazines are in temporary retirement until I find a way to make them operational again.

This is the standard for hi-cap Ramlines. Work OK for a few magfuls then slowly crap out. Go with Butler Creek. The plastic lipped Hot Lips have work flawlessly for me for years. Prices have dropped slightly for the past few months from as high as $125. I've seen them as low as $45 nowadays. (They also make steel lipped versions.)

If you still have problems, call MWG in Fla 18004289394. I believe they repair/rebuild the 50 rd drums for the 10/22.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Caeca Invidia Es-Hope some of the replies help. Poodleshooter-Hope your name refers to prairie dogs and not the French type. What a shame, I bought three of these things thinking I'm set for a long time with the law on 10 shot mags. I have a feeling there's a lot of us out there. I looked up the Gis(sp?) 10/22 board, going to have to sort through it a bit plus look at some others. Good idea. hksigwalther-If some of the fixes don't work I'll definitely be looking into the steel lipped Butler Creeks. manny1-Will definitely be looking up MWG. Sounds like a winner. I'm sure this will help others in the same boat. Thanks again everyone...Bogger
