Well me and the other half are thinking about selling our home and buying a mobile /camper /travel home .
We plan on useing the east coast corridor between FLA and up state N.Y. You get the idea sun birds ,winter in fla and summer up state ....now the question are there any specific routes one should take between the two points if carring ??? Does one need a permit for all the states you pass thru ? how do you safely and legally keep your fire arms with you when traveling along the atlantic coast ??? Would appreacate some feed back or links .......

We lived on long island and traveled in a rv for over 40years and always carried a shot gun, now my primory res is tn and i have a carry permit and it is no good in new jersy,dc new york, so i lock it up in the rv safe when in them states. i dont think any other state reconises ny permit.

You will need to maintain NY as your primary residence because if you do not there would be no legal way to carry a handgun.

You will want to have AT LEAST a NY permit, PA and FL. No state has reciprocity with NY.

Go to concealedcarry.net and check for reciprocity to see what other permits you'll need or what route you'd have to take to stay legal.

When I make a similar yearly commute, I use Rt.81 to minimize the time/distance spent in Maryland and West Virginia. I then cross over to Rt 95 in the Carolinas via 77 and 26. W Va only honors Florida RESIDENT permits, while Maryland honors nothing (including the Constitution). I'm through both of them in close to a half hour by using I81. My PA resident and FL non-res permits cover me for the rest of the trip, with the exception of South Carolina, where you can't carry it, but you can have it in the locked glove box, if I understand correctly.

Motor homes are considered homes except the drivers compartment. What is in the back out of the reach of the driver is considered as a residence not a motor vechile.

New Jersey = NO HOLLOW POINT AMMO

That means you start with big bullets. 45acp or 45colt would be my choice.

Actually I checked on the Hollow point issue in N.J. and the way

I understand it 'owning' hollow points is not against the law, it's just illegal to shoot anyone with them...

As for your RV travel.... my first suggestion is forget the absolute 'east' coast. Why anyone would want to drive the I-95 corridor up from VA and beyond is a mystery.... now 81 up through PA and then the wester part of NY is much better....

As for the original question... you are ultimately at the mercy of what ever state you are in.... My two choices would be a short pump shotgun and your favorite handgun... but what to do with the handgun is a hard one to call thse days depending on the state you are in.
