Quiz: Beyond Democrat or Republican, what are you?

Why do you need a quiz to figure out what you should be able to do yourself?

These quizzes are getting old.

I had a similar experience. The quiz told me I was just being argumentative, and asked me what I really thought.

I dunno. I never considered myself a Libertarian, I disagree with some of their views socially, I typically consider myself a Conservative (and still do in the original sense of the word) but I guess that term has just changed meaning so much over the years. The quiz said I am a liberatarian and in fact that group got the highest percentage of people who took it. Sounds like most people are libertarians and don't even know it. It's not the party you claim to support, it's how YOU think.

I'm frankly surprised to find you a Libertarian, I thought you were a liberal considering some of the past posts seen by you. You and Leif were the TFLs true blue liberals I thought.

How so? I've never advocated more welfare or social security, I don't support gun grabbing or special interest pandering. It's funny because on other forums I'm seen as a hardcore conservative because I'm all about economic freedom and the RKBA. Then again even some of the most conservative members here are pretty liberal when it comes to fining small businesses for hiring who they wish to hire. They believe in economic freedom as long its' not their pockets being picked.

I'm told it is a highly respected tool for determining people's political views. Praised by such sources as the washington post. I got the link in an E mail. What is that site that checks out urban myths and such from E mail?

You're probably thinking of Snopes. This isn't a scam or anything, no urban myth. What you have to remember is that it's created by a libertarian organization and thus the best answers are going to lead people directly into their line of thought.

Most quizes will only score you as a liberal if you favor government funded social programs. That is kind of a stupid definition of liberal, but the one the quiz is built around.

When you speak to someone and they say they support gay marriage or arbortion freedom, we then label them "liberal". But the kind of attitude expressed has little to do with how you want your tax dollars spent, per the quiz's construction.

Nor do such quizes ask "how much" or "why". I was given a liberal slant on the libertarian scale because I don't support doing away with ALL welfare. That's because an active economy will always mean someone is out of work and charity is too haphazard. But that doesn't imply that I don't want to grossly reduce the number of people ON welfare - which is rather more conservative in view.

So, does that make me an "Army of One"? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

It's generally been my experience that "conservatives" view libertarians as liberals, and "liberals" view libertarians as conservatives. That is: Until they find out you're a libertarian, then both just regard you as insignificant. And maybe slightly loony.

I scored on the "liberal" side of libertarian. Funny, I always thought myself a conservative-leaning libertarian. I suppose that score was due to my "maybe"s on privatizing social security and welfare, and my "disagree" on free trade.

Libertarian, leaning right. I'm not really suprised at this, as the older I get, the more I want to be left alone by the government.

The test said I was a pure Libertarian, but I'm more of a conservative Libertarian (a lot like Ron Paul, but not as anti-war).
