quick question...(yeah right)

I am cutting and crowning a Finn m91 barrel tomorrow. What's the consensus on crowns these days? Still 11 degree? I have heard the new thing is flush crowning, and I hear some good gun makers using a 46. I want this gun for 500 yard shooting, I don't care about protection of the crown as it will be getting a brake.. so if anyone had opinions on what's best and maybe some links to some reading material on the subject, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks
Nate

Anything will do for barrels not expected to shoot no worse than 1/4" at 100 yards.

It's easier for most folks to face the muzzle flat compared to dialing in the bore to zero runout before facing muzzles to 11 degrees or any angle for that matter. If a dead center's fit in the muzzle then the outside turned true to it for the steady to hold the bore axis on its spin axis, the angled face and crown at the rifling will be better centered on it. You may already know this.

yes, after spending a few hours sifting through the rhetoric on the interwebs, i have learned alot and learned ver little. it seems in the end, a good crown is a good crown and my choice of angle will have little effect.

couple interesting articles on longrangehunter.com, one was called "the overrated crown" and theres a few others. i will prob just go ith the 11 beause iit looks nice.

thanks.

Recessed crown does offer protection, but since you're adding a brake it's not relevant.

This is from a PTG 11 degree crowning tool on a 91/30 barrel after cutting to 22"
